Xiaomi has announced that it will be launch six smartphones this year, meanwhile, the price of one of its most popular smartphones, the Redmi 5A, has now gone up by a grand. Flipkart is hosting a mobile bonanza sale with huge offers on various smartphones, which kicks off on March 13. Samsung Galaxy S9+ had a big day today with a tear down revealing the insides of the device, of which a lot of attention went to its camera module. Finally, a report today revealed that the ‘cheaper’ MacBook lineup that Apple has reportedly been working on, may feature retina display. Here’s taking a look at all these new stories in brief.
Entry-level Apple MacBook with retina display
Apple has lately been reported to working on an entry-level MacBook, which according to a fresh new report has pegged a 4 million shipment benchmark for 2018. The report further adds that although Apple originally looked at sourcing panels for the new MacBook from a supplier in China, it has decided to opt for LG Display instead, particularly the retina display.
Samsung Galaxy S9+ teardown
In a newly released video, iFixit has torn down the Galaxy S9+ to understand how the camera works in real life. As the video reveals, Samsung has achieved the dual aperture functionality by modifying the design of camera module. While traditional smartphone cameras with single aperture have five-blades to let light in, Samsung is using just two ring-like blades.
The teardown also reveals that Samsung is not using any advanced facial/depth-mapping feature like Apple to implement this feature.
Flipkart Mobile Bonanza
Flipkart is hosting a Mobile Bonanza starting March 13. It has already listed some of the top deals on smartphones and flash sales of newly released handsets, like Google Pixel 2 duo, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, and Moto Z2 Play among other. The sale period will be live until March 15, 2018. As part of the sale, Flipkart is offering five percent instant discount on use of SBI Credit Cards during checkout. In addition to the discounts, Flipkart Mobile Bonanza also offers benefits including no-cost EMI schemes, exchange offer, and buyback guarantee on the purchase of new smartphones.
Xiaomi Redmi 5A price hike
In a bunch of social media posts, Xiaomi today announced that the Redmi 5A will be available at its ‘original price’ of Rs 5,999. The update is for the 16GB storage and 2GB RAM variant, which until now was priced at Rs 4,999. The updated price will be applicable across mi.com, Flipkart, and the Mi Home retail stores.
Xiaomi to launch 6 new smartphones in 2018
Xiaomi global vice-president and India head Manu Kumar Jain today was quoted as saying that the company will look to write a mix of small and large cheques to acquire stakes in software and internet startups over the next 12 months. Xiaomi also plans to increase the pace of its investments over the next few years as part of its strategy of investing $1 billion in Indian ventures.
Additionally, after debuting its smart LED TV range in the country last month, Xiaomi is now looking at expanding its smartphone portfolio by launching as many as six smartphones this year.
