Xiaomi is prepping the launch of its next flagship handset. According to a teaser posted by Xiaomi s founder Lei Jun on the Weibo forum, the company will be releasing its next flagship handset — which is expected to be called either Mi5 or Mi4S — on January 15. There s no better way to start 2015 than with our newest products said Lei Jun on the company s official Weibo page (translated). The teaser shows off an empty hand, hinting that the Mi5 will be astonishingly thin. Previous reports and leaks have suggested that the Xiaomi Mi5 will sport a fairly compact body and minimal side bezels. In the poster, the phone s thickness has been compared with the wings of a cicada, an insect found in China. While a thin factor will please many eyes, it will be interesting to see if the company has made compromises on battery to make the device thinner. From what we have heard so far, the handset will sport a 5.7-inch display with QHD (2560 1440 pixels) screen resolution. It will be powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor paired with Adreno 430 GPU. Other attractions of the handset include a 20.7-megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor sensor and a fingerprint scanner.
The handset was also spotted on Oppomart, an ecommerce site which accidentally listed the forthcoming handset on its portal. According to the listing, while the display and screen resolution of the handset are consistent with what we have previously heard, the processor inside the device will be a 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805, which will come coupled with a 3GB of RAM. The device will be available in 16GB and 64GB storage options. On the camera front, it will have a 16-megapixel rear-snapper and 8-megapixed selfie camera. The device packs in an impressive 3,600 mAh battery. The shopping portal has $599 (Rs 32,000) as the price tag for the handset.
