Xiaomi to launch limited edition DIY Wi-Fi router with 1TB storage on December 19


Chinese smartphone vendor Xiaomi is launching a first of its kind do-it-yourself Wi-Fi router on December 19, called the MiWiFi. The parts will come in a numbered wooden case will all the parts and screwdriver to assemble the router. Only 500 units will be available on the day of the flash sale and Xiaomi will have two other sales later depending on the demand. There is no word on the pricing but the pack has a RMB 180 (approximately Rs 1,800) Thunder Platinum Membership card, which sounds like a high-speed Internet service. Talking about the internals, we are looking at a dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 ac connectivity, a 1TB SATA drive, a 1GHz Broadcom processor with 256MB of RAM. The product page also talks about users being able to add their own antenna. It will come with two LAN ports as well as two USB 2.0 ports.

Earlier this year the smartphone maker also launched an Android-based smart TV, diversifying itself from just smartphones and related gadgets. You can check out details of the MiWiFi here.
