Xiaomi has sent invites for a global smartphone launch event in India on April 23. The invite doesn’t specify much apart from mentioning “i is coming”. The launch event will be attended by Xiaomi CEO and founder, Lei Jun; president and co-founder Bin Lin and VP International, Hugo Barra. The invitation mentions it will be a smartphone launch and considering the event is happening in India, it is most likely to be a mid-end smartphone. While Xiaomi has not launched the Mi Note in India, considering it is a global premier, we can rule that out as well. It is highly unlikely that the Mi 5 would be launched, considering the Mi 4 was only recently launched in India. Also Read - Redmi 9 Review: Overshadowed by its siblings
Xiaomi has been getting pretty aggressive in India, having increased its retail partners from just Flipkart to Snapdeal, Amazon, Airtel and The Mobile Store. Earlier today, reports emerged about Xiaomi’s plans to set up its own warehouse near Bangalore.
The Chinese smartphone vendor has become the fifth largest smartphone brand in India less than a year since its entry, according to IDC. Xiaomi also plans to start retailing its products from its own India site soon.
