The Google I/O 2016 developer conference is all set to take place tomorrow, May 18 at 10:30PM IST. While a lot of announcements regarding virtual reality, Android N and more are expected, Xiaomi s Global VP Hugo Barra has made an interesting announcement. Barra has put up a teaser post on Facebook saying Xiaomi will also be participating at the show and will unveil something. The photo offers an outline of the product which shows a volume rocker, a button above that and a circular wheel just besides it. The setup reminds us of the Mi Box 3, an Android-OS based TV box which the company sells in China. The Apple TV-like device includes a 64-bit quad-core processor, 4K decoding output, voice search within the remote, access to entertainment content including movies and TV shows, and a lot more. It will be interesting to see whether this could be one of the few devices Xiaomi launches in the US, considering the global stage at which the announcement could take place.
Google s keynote, which is set to take place tomorrow, will be live streamed on YouTube in 360-degree view as well, which can be viewed on the Cardboard or other VR headsets, offering you an immersive viewing experience. At the event, Google is likely to detail new features of Android N and may also announce expansion of preview program to other non-Nexus devices. Currently, the Sony Xperia Z2 is the only non-Nexus device to officially get the Android N Developer Preview update.
Besides Android N, Google is also expected to talk more about its Project Tango, Project Ara s modular smartphone and may also detail its rumored standalone VR headset that could run on a dedicated Android VR platform.
