The Yi 4K Action Camera 2 is likely to house Sony s IMX 377 camera sensor of resolution 12.35-megapixels, which may disappoint few users as the previous generation model sported IMX 206 sensor with 16-megapixel resolution. However, the new sensor supports 4K video recording, whereas the previous generation sensor was restricted to full HD (1080p) video recording.
Under the hood, an upgraded Ambarella A9 chipset is set to power the camera. The leaked photos of the product detail page reveals that the processor offers low power consumption, while delivering high performance, even when recording 4K videos at 30fps. On the back, it is also set to get a 2.19-inch display, which was missing in the previous generation model. With Corning Gorilla Glass protection, the display is expected to run on 640×360 pixel resolution along with pixel density of 330ppi and viewing angle of 160-degrees.
Lastly, the battery is also set to get an upgrade to 1,400mAh, compared to 1,010mAh on the previous generation. The leaked photos reveal that the battery could last for up to eight hours on a single charge, and offer up to 110 minutes of backup when recording 4K videos at 30fps. While there s no word on the rest of the features, usual set of connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB or microHDMI and a microSD card slot could be expected.
Also, pricing and availability details are scarce at the moment. We ll have to wait until Xiaomi makes the Yi 4K Action Camera 2 official.
