Xiaomi has been teasing the launch of its new ‘Made in India’ smartphone for a long time now. While the name of the phone is not known yet, Xiaomi is calling it the ‘Desh Ka Smartphone’. The event is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 12:00PM. The company will be live-streaming the launch event, and you can watch it here. Additionally, you can also follow the company’s official social media channels for real-time updates on pricing and availability.
While Xiaomi has been secretive about the product being launched, the hashtag #DeshKaSmartphone rings a few bells and hints that the smartphone will be a part of the Indian Government’s Make in India initiative on which Xiaomi has been investing heavily recently. The teasers of the upcoming phone also hint that the smartphone might come with a big battery capacity and come pre-loaded with localized content. The smartphone is also rumored to be a part of the Redmi series. Xiaomi recently also launched the Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite under this series.
Xiaomi has been investing heavily in the Make in India initiative. The company has recently launched a new manufacturing plant in Noida. This is Xiaomi’s third manufacturing plant in India. The plant is also the company’s first non-smartphone unit and currently assembles power banks. The Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2i that will be made in India is available in two models of 10,000mAh and 20,000mAh models, priced at Rs 799 and Rs 1,499 respectively.
According to a recent report, Xiaomi is the number one smartphone brand across the fifty top cities in India. Xiaomi now controls 26.5 percent of the domestic smartphone market, thereby going past Samsung whose share stood at 24.1 percent at the end of Q3 2017.
