Xiaomi launched its flagship smartphone, the Poco F1, at an event in New Delhi today. The smartphone powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset starts at Rs 20,990 and is aimed at those looking for an upgrade from Xiaomi’s current premium offering, the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Like all other Xiaomi smartphones, the Poco F1 also runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. At the event, Jai Mani, the Product Head for Poco, confirmed that the smartphone will get Android 9 Pie in the fourth quarter. While he did not offer further timeline for the update, the PocoF1 should get Android 9 Pie before the end of this year. Considering the smartphone already supports Project Treble, there is a good chance that Android P will start showing up on POCO F1 sometime next month or early in October. Poco F1 Armoured Edition First Look
Xiaomi does not have a strong track record when it comes to updating its flagship smartphones with the latest software update. Most of its devices are still running Android Oreo while some older devices are stuck at Nougat. The company tends to focus on its own UI elements called MIUI instead of the base operating system. With Poco F1, Xiaomi seems to be giving importance to base level of Android as well.
Xiaomi PocoF1 Specifications and Price
The Poco F1 is Xiaomi’s device at the premium mid-range segment, which is currently dominated by OnePlus. With Poco F1, Xiaomi is offering a flagship device that does not come with a flagship-range price.
In terms of specifications, the smartphone features a 6.18-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2246 x 1080 pixels and 18.7:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB or 256GB storage. It sports dual rear camera setup with 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors and a 20-megapixel selfie camera.
The Poco F1 also comes with dedicated IR sensor for facial recognition and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. It supports WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and 4G VoLTE. The smartphone is backed by a 4,000mAh battery and will be available in red, black, blue colors and armored edition with kevlar back. The base model of Poco F1 is priced at Rs 20,999 while the variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at Rs 23,999. The premium model with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage is priced at Rs 29,999.
