Both the smartphones are priced at Rs 12,999. Unlike the Mi 4i, the Black will not be sold via the flash sale model. Instead, starting July 13 it will be made available freely on Flipkart, until stocks last of course. The Mi 4i is available in white and grey, while Black only sports one basic color.
The Xolo Black features a slightly larger 5.5-inch display as compared to the Xiaomi Mi 4i which sports a 5-inch display. Both the smartphones sport full HD resolution and OGS display.
Processor and RAM
In terms of performance, there won’t be much difference between the two smartphones as they both sport a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 octa-core chipset paired with 2GB RAM, and a similar Adreno 405 GPU.
Possibly the biggest difference between the two smartphones is the camera. The Xolo Black boasts of a unique dual-camera setup with one rear camera at 13-megapixel and the other at 2-megapixel. The rear cameras are bundled alongside Chromaflash for better photos in low light. The front camera is at 5-megapixels and comes with a diffused flash.
In comparison, the Xiaomi Mi 4i comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and dual-LED flash, and a 5-megapixel selfie camera.
Another significant difference between the Black and Mi 4i is expandable storage. Even though both offer equal 16GB internal storage, the external storage option is absent on the Mi 4i. The Black offers additional expansion of 32GB via a microSD slot.
There is not much difference in terms of battery. The Xolo Black packs a 3,200mAh battery, while the Xiaomi Mi 4i packs a slightly less 3,120mAh battery.
Both the smartphones run on Android Lollipop on top of their own custom UIs. The Mi 4i runs on MIUI 6, while the Xolo Black runs on its own Hive UI. A detailed analysis of both the operating systems only when we review the Black.
With respect to connectivity options, the two smartphones come with all the default options including dual-SIM slots. However, the Xolo Black has a hybrid version, which means that the SIM slot also doubles up as a microUSB slot for expandable storage, a feature that is absent on the Mi 4i.
The Xolo Black is yet another addition to the already competitive affordable smartphone segment. Priced at the same point as the Mi 4i, the Black offers a little bit more in the storage and camera department than its competitor. Furthermore, the fact that it won’t be sold via flash sales gives it an added edge over the Mi 4i’s scanty supply in flash sales.
