In a bid to take on Xiaomi and Motorola, the likes of Micromax, Huawei and ZTE have set a trend of sorts by launching sub-brands Yu and Honor that are exclusively available online. The latest to join the bandwagon is Xolo, which will be launching a lineup of smartphones called Black via Flipkart. While the Indian smartphone vendor has opted for an online-only retail model, it has tied up with Vodafone to demo the smartphone offline as well. Xolo will launch the first smartphone later this week on July 10. It has however tied up with Vodafone, and the Xolo Black will be on display at Vodafone India stores across the country. While Online Only is a great strategy to test waters in a new market with a new model, this partnership will allow XOLO to tap into Vodafone s brick-and-mortar retail presence, Vivek Mathur, Chief Commercial Officer, Vodafone India said. Exclusive demos and in-store experience coupled with additional DATA offers will empower our customers with a great value proposition and help them remain connected always.
Companies are launching sub-brands exclusively online these days to cater to the urban youth audience. Furthermore, via the online-only model, these companies are also able to take on the likes of Xiaomi, Motorola and OnePlus. By saving on stores and marketing costs, these companies are able to price their smartphones quite competitively. Taking on them, Micromax has already launched the Yu Yureka and Yuphoria, while Honor has a host of smartphones on offer including the Honor 6, Honor 4X, Honor 6 Plus, and the Honor Bee.
Xolo has put out teasers ahead of the launch later this week. The company has already revealed that Black will boast a dual-camera setup at the back with fast focus capabilities, and it is also expected to feature a thin profile, a glass rear panel, smudge-free display, 4G LTE support, and run on the new Hive 1.5 UI based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. BGR India was also the first to report that the smartphone will be priced below Rs 15,000.
