Apple banned the official Tumblr app from the App Store in November. The Cupertino-based company banned the app citing child pornography as a reason. The move forced Tumblr to ban all adult content from its website. Following the official announcement from Tumblr two weeks back, Apple seems to have reinstated the app.

According to TechCrunch, the app has been restored and is once again available for download from the App Store. Soon after its acquisition by Verizon’s Oath, which also owns Yahoo, Tumblr started aggressive content moderation on its platform. One of the first step in that effort was the introduction of a safe mode that automatically filtered mature content on the platform. The company went a step ahead by making it default option for users in February.

Tumblr is now going ahead to moderate all of the adult content or child pornography content on its network. This means that safe mode will be the only mode on the platform and users will not be able to post any NSFW (not suitable for work) content there.

The company has not confirmed whether it is taking the decision based on Apple’s ban on its application. However, the timing suggests Tumblr is implementing its planned moderation of content going on its platform in order to ensure that it does not lose millions of users accessing the service via Apple’s iOS.

Tumblr’s proposed ban on adult content won’t come into effect until December 17 but it seems to have popped up on App Store few days. There will be adult content on Tumblr for the next few days before the moderators begin pulling down old as well as new content. The move has been criticized by a number of Tumblr users who have called the place to be safe for sharing their thoughts freely.
