After all the chatter on social media about the dreaded ‘blue ticks’ that were intruding into many people’s personal space, WhatsApp finally took the hint and rolled out an update with the option to disable Read Receipts. This updated version of WhatsApp for Android (version 2.11.44) lets you disable this new feature under the privacy section of your settings menu. Right now, this new version is in beta stage and is avaiable only on Android via WhatsApp s official website(available in apk format), but we can expect the company to roll out an update for iOS and Windows Phone users soon.
For all Android users, after updating your WhatsApp, you simply go to Settings from the upper right Menu option. Then go to Account > Privacy and enable or disable the Read Receipts feature from there. The new Read Receipts option will be seen right below the Blocked contacts option.
The ‘blue ticks’ were released earlier this month to eradicate all doubt over delivered messages. Now, one tick next to a message means its reached the WhatsApp servers, two (grey) ticks mean the message has reached the users device and the two blue ticks mean the receiver has opened your text message and read it.
