You could soon have to pay to visit and use your favorite Facebook groups, as the social networking company is looking to allow monetization of groups by group administrators. While the move is still being tested currently, eventually you could be asked to pay a monthly subscription fee to be a part of your favorite Facebook group.
The monetization feature is currently being tested on groups related to parenting and cooking topics for the time being, and subscription fees in the US could range from $4.99 (approximately Rs 340) to $29.99 (approximately Rs 2,050) per month, and it would be up to the group administrator to decide the subscription fee. This would be optional of course, and administrators could choose to keep their groups free of charge.
If groups do choose to go the subscription route, it would be an excellent monetization opportunity for those running successful and popular groups related to specific topics. However, it would also add pressure on group administrators to ensure that the group is run properly and paying users are being offered enough unique value to continue paying the subscription charges. Facebook Groups have been particularly effective, since they make use of the social network’s wide reach to connect users with similar interests.

For the time being, Facebook is still experimenting with this and won’t be taking a share of any revenues earned. The goal of this is to reward group administrators that put considerable energy and effort into maintaining their groups, and also help them earn money from their work. Administrators can also use the revenues to produce better content for their groups. It’s unclear as to when it will roll out fully, or indeed if monetization for Facebook Groups will be made available in India.
