Ever since OnePlus entered the smartphone market a couple of years ago, the company had differentiated itself from others with the unique invite-only system for selling its smartphones. However, it turned out to be quite annoying for many users as they had to wait for an invite and unable to buy the smartphone. To address those issues, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has announced that the OnePlus 3 will be available invite-free, right from the launch date. The invite system enabled OnePlus to better match demand and supply and ensured it wasn’t left with a lot of unsold inventory in the channel. It also let them have a relatively lean production line and create hype for its smartphones, which were difficult to buy. However, doing away with the invite system suggests that OnePlus has not only ramped up its production but is also bullish about the success of the OnePlus 3.
The OnePlus 3 is set to launch on June 15 in China, and the event is set to kick off at at 7.30AM IST. The launch will be live streamed in virtual reality from its newly created virtual space station called The Loop . The Loop VR headset will be offered via an app only sale on June 3 and June 7 at 12PM IST Re 1 via Amazon India (shipping charges extra).
The invite-system is not the only thing ditched by the Chinese handset maker. While the OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 had sandstone finish at the back, the OnePlus 3 will come with full metal unibody design. We have seen the leaked photos and press renders, and the back of the smartphone look similar to the HTC One M9.
