Micromax and its online sub-brand YU have been laying low for almost a year now, and only recently have we started seeing some teasers from the YU twitter handle. YU is an online exclusive lineup from Micromax that has started giving out invites to media for the supposed launch of its new smartphone the YU Ace.

The Indian smartphone brand, Micromax, may have been a prominent presence at one point, but has since fallen off the map with the dominance of Chinese manufacturers. The YU Ace is expected to be a successor to the Yu Yureka 2 that was launched in September last year.

The company has not revealed any information about what it was planning to launch at the event. Micromax has only come up with a cryptic teaser that shows an image of two battery-shaped hour-glasses with the text “F(ACE) OFF!” written above and the text “Coming soon!” written below the image. Almost a day after the teaser, a new leak has surfaced online showing what the upcoming device will look like.

The leaked render of the YU Ace showed a “Full view” or “Full-screen” display with what looks to be a 18:9 screen aspect ratio and thin bezels. The company seems to have gone with the no notch approach, and the device seems to have significantly bulky chin and forehead. However, an 18:9 aspect ratio with no notch is a welcome break from all the other smartphones in the market.

According to a recent report, the phone is expected to feature dual-rear cameras, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and a metal construction. It will probably feature 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a 6-inch Full HD+ display, and Android 8.1 Oreo OS. The YU Ace is also likely to be priced under the Rs 15,000 mark according to speculations.

YU is likely to be planning to take the fight to its competition including the likes of Xiaomi, Honor, and Huawei with the absence of the notch. However, the company will need to ensure that there are no half measures, and that the device packs a punch in terms of hardware wrapped around in an impressive design at an affordable price.
