This is the first time a company has crowd-sourced names for a flagship smartphone. As per the company, it received around 100,000 entries, and the final shortlist included names like Yuphoria, Yuknight, Yunicorn, Yunity, and Youth. Out of the lot, the first name got the most number of votes, and it has been chosen as the name of the forthcoming flagship. Last month, BGR India had exclusively revealed that Yu was working on its next flagship codenamed Project Caesar. Since then the company has been teasing the imminent launch, and also hinted that the flagship will feature a 64-bit processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in memory, and run on CM OS 12 based on Android Lollipop out-of-the-box.
In the meantime, the Yu Yureka is still on sale via Amazon India, priced at Rs 8,999. It features a 5.5-inch HD IPS display, Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB expandable storage. It also includes a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 2,500mAh battery, and runs on CM OS 11 based on Android KitKat.
