Xiaomi is primarily known for its smartphones, laptops and other IoT-enabled devices but it also sells a slew of other gadgets in partnership with lesser known brands. One such new product is a smart refrigerator from Xiaomi-backed Yumni.
The company has launched an intelligent French Door Refrigerator, with side by side top door and bottom utility options. Xiaomi says this is the 160th product being released as part of its crowdfunding effort. The smart refrigerator also shows Xiaomi’s ambition to turn into full consumer electronics brand similar to Samsung, Sony and LG.
In terms of features, the Xiaomi refrigerator has a total volume of 462 litres and is priced at RMB 3,999 (around Rs 40,000). Out of the total 462L volume, the freezer section alone is 289 litres and the idea here is to make use of oversized drawers for storing large items. The bottom-mounted drawers rely on a linear slide technology for a smoother operation. Other notable design element is the split compartment design for freezer section and 8 layers of bottle rack for smart storage.
Yumni says the intelligent refrigerator uses 180-degree vector frequency conversion for better efficiency and lower consumption of electricity. It is also designed to blow frost free air and the intelligent design ensures that the air is not blown directly on the food. The intelligent part is largely powered by the 10.1-inch touchscreen display that includes software for one-click shopping, query for new recipes and other kitchen related functions. There is also a built-in voice recognition system that connects to the phone and allows for hands-free voice calling.
Since it is a smart refrigerator, Yumni comes with a companion app that can be used to check refrigerator’s consumables like remaining life of the filter cartridge and options to conserve energy. The Yumni smart refrigerator is not expected to arrive in India anytime soon but looking at Xiaomi’s plans, it is likely that Yumni-branded devices will be available from Mi Home stores in the future.
