Zomato and Ola have entered into a partnership to create an ecosystem for both of its services. The integration creates a micro app of Zomato and Ola into both the platforms. Zomato users will be able to book Ola rides within the app and also make payments using Ola Money. At the same time, Ola will allow users to access some of Zomato s key features directly through its app. The new features are currently available in Bengaluru and will roll out across India by mid-August. On Zomato, the integration with Ola will primarily work for booking tables in restaurants. Users will be able to book an Ola ride to the selected restaurant straight from Zomato. Additionally, Zomato partner restaurants will also set up special zones for Ola customers to book a ride. Zomato users will also be able to use Ola Money, which is the cab aggregator s mobile wallet for making payments on orders.
As for Ola, there will be a Zomato micro-app on Ola Play, its connected car entertainment platform. Ola Play allows riders to watch videos, movies and TV shows. Zomato will be available on Ola Play now and users will be able to perform certain actions like view restaurants and food menu, read reviews, order food and book tables as well. On announcing the integration, Saurabh Mishra of Ola said, rom bringing in the ease of scrolling through the Zomato app while enjoying an Ola Play ride, to the convenience of booking an Ola ride and paying through Ola Money at various Zomato properties, this partnership is a win-win for users on both sides. With Ola s scale and network across a 110 cities and Zomato s leadership in partnership in the food-tech space, this partnership has the potential to grow and create much more value for customers in the time to come.
Zomato and Ola s partnership could strike as a threat to the recently launched UberEATS in Mumbai. Uber has partnered with restaurants in Mumbai to quickly order and deliver food across various places in Mumbai. In UberEATS, there is no minimum ordering amount and the delivery charges are Rs 15.
