Apple WWDC 2022: 5 major highlights of the newly announced iOS 16 update

From different lock screen customizable styles, focus filters for apps, Live Actions tool and more, here's all you need to know about iOS 16 update.

IOS 16: Lock screen

Apple now allows users to simply press and hold to edit their iPhone lockscreen. Simply by swiping, you will see different styles with color filter, backgrounds and fonts that compliment the other two options. Users can change the fonts and add lock screen widgets like temperature, activity rings and a calendar.  Users will also have a choice to set multiple customised lock screen with different widgets. There's also a photo-shuffle option that automatically updates the pictures on lock screen. 


IOS 16: Notifications and live activities

With the new update, lock screen notifications now appear at the bottom of the display, so that the lock screen photo is not covered. Apple has also introduced a new Live Activities tool to manage notifications for activities like sporting events or Uber ride progress and more so that users can stay on the top of things in real-time, right from the lock screen, instead of getting interrupted every now and then. 


IOS 16 updates Messages app

With iOS 16, Apple has announced changes to Messages as well. Users will be able to edit any message they have sent. You can recall messages as well. Hence, "unsend" is a major change. The users will also be able to mark messages unread. SharePlay will also be available in the Messages app so that whenever you want to share a movie on Disney Plus, you can start SharePlay together while chatting in Messages.


IOS 16: Focus mode, focus filter

iOS 16 introduces new Focus behaviour widgets and lock screen looks. Users can have different lock screen for work and different lock screen for workout. Additionally, they can even add Focus filters within the apps, for example, Calendar, Mail, Messages, and Safari can display only the content that is relevant to a user’s Focus.


IOS 16: iCloud

With iOS 16, users can set up a new device for their child with the help of iCloud. They can use parental controls that they had set on the previous device. Users will get tips for updating settings for their kids as they grow old like reminder to check location sharing setting, sharing iCloud Plus subscriptions and more.  Additionally, Apple iCloud Shared Photo Library will allow users to share an iCloud album with other using shared libraries. You can also select automatic sharing which will use face recognition to share images in the shared library automatically.
