Reminds me of rainbows and unicorns

The first thought that strikes my mind when I look at the glossy and colourful Oppo F21 Pro 5G is unicorns and rainbows! This can be a head turner and a great choice for someone who loves trendy design and design is their first priority when buying a new phone. With that said, this glossy and shiny design might not suit everyone's taste, as they like subtle and matte shades. It all comes down to one's personal preference. I was glad to know that even the phone has a glossy back, it is not a fingerprint magnet. The smartphone is quite handy and not very slippery. Overall, it is a good trendy smartphone to look at.

Beautiful and bright display

Oppo F21 Pro 5G features a 6.43-inch AMOLED display that has a Full HD resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. It houses a punch hole camera, placed in the top left corner. The punch hole camera is tiny but noticeable, however, it did not intrude a lot while watching videos or using the phone in general. The bezels are quite sleek which gives it a neat look but there is a wider chin that sits at the bottom of the display. The display also offers 600 nits of peak brightness so that you dont have to squint while using it in outdoor settings.

Ticks all the right boxes

The smartphone houses a standard 4,500 mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. Although, you will get options with better battery but this is surely not a dealbreaker for this one. The right edge of the smartphone has a huge power button placed just right and the other edge houses two volume up and down buttons. On the bottom edge, you will get a single grille speaker, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C port for charging. It is 173gm in weight and is just 7.3mm in thickness.

The camera

The smartphone is powered by Snapdragon 695 chipset that offers good performance for day-to-day tasks. In terms of camera, the smartphone features a triple rear camera setup that houses a 64MP primary sensor, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The rear camera clicks good detailed images and captures natural colours, given that you are not using any filters. For selfies, you will get a 32MP Sony IMX709 sensor. I was not very impressed by the front camera as it produced noisy images with blurred details. Notably, these are just my first impressions and it will more testing to reach a conclusion on this.

Should you buy it?

Oppo F21 Pro 5G competes with the likes of OnePlus Nord CE 2, Samsung Galaxy A53 5 and, Vivo V23 5G Oppo's latest offering has its own quirks especially when it comes to its looks, but others have their own advantages. It all comes down to what your priorities are. If you are a big Oppo fan and are not hell-bent on getting a shiny 5G ready smartphone, you can always go for the 4G variant of the phone that is priced at Rs 22,999 in India.
