The affordable headphones segment has traditionally been dominated by a few names, with brands such as Philips, Panasonic, Sony and Sennheiser being the go-to options for most buyers. Recent times have also seen the emergence of Chinese brands such as Soundmagic and Brainwavz, but one thing that’s definitely missing here is a noteworthy Indian name in affordable personal audio.

Indian brand Tekfusion hopes to be the Indian brand that makes its mark on this segment, and its latest product is the Twinwoofers M 2. Priced at Rs 1,999, this headset is the successor to the first Twinwoofers headset. Just how are these ‘Made in India’ headphones to use? Find out in our review.

Tekfusion Twinwoofers M 2 Design and Specifications

In terms of design, the Twinwoofers M 2 is fairly similar to its predecessor. The headset features a metal casing, with the Tekfusion logo at the back of each casing. The matte black color option also goes well with the industrial and modern design language of the headset, and on the whole I quite like how the headset looks and feels. Frequency response ranges from 19-21,000Hz, impedance is rated at 16 Ohms and sensitivity peaks at 113dB, making for a loud pair of headphones that are easily driven by most smartphones and audio players.

The 3.5mm plug also features similar metal build, while the cable has been improved and is now a plastic-wrapped twisted affair. The M 2 comes with a single-button remote microphone for hands-free calling, and the sales package includes additional ear-tips including tri-flanged options. The single button remote is stated to work with Android, iOS and Windows Phone devices. There is some cable noise audible above the Y-splitter, which is unfortunately something I’ve seen in most headsets I’ve reviewed at this price.tekfusion twinwoofers m2 4

Tekfusion Twinwoofers M 2 Performance

As is the norm in India and its tastes in music, headphones are often judged by the quality of the bass on offer. A bass-friendly sonic signature is usually what buyers look for, and the Tekfusion Twinwoofers M 2 abides to that requirement perfectly. What you get is a sonic signature that is tuned around getting the best from the bass. This doesn’t mean that there’s too much thump in the sound; the bass is calculated, clean and incredibly easy to listen to. You can feel the reverberations exactly when you need to, and it remains muted when you want it to be.

The rest of the sonic range is equally audible in good measure, although the v-shaped sonic signature is fairly evident. This is the kind of sound that suits most modern genres, from Bollywood music to pop, rock, electronica and more. Listening to Pitbull’s Fun brought out all the excitement and pep in this track, from the attack in the bass to the top-end sparkle of the highs.

What is lacking though, is definition. The Tekfusion Twinwoofers M 2 doesn’t quite achieve the same level of detail and clean sound as the similarly priced Soundmagic E10C, and indeed this is the headsets only real weakness. When it comes to soundstage, imaging and drive, the Twinwoofers M 2 are excellent for the price, offering a wide stage that lets you hear much of the song, albeit with a slight addition of excitement and attack.tekfusion twinwoofers m2 1

Verdict

The Tekfusion Twinwoofers M 2 is a good pair of headphones that gets most things right, from looks and build quality to performance. It has a typically crowd-pleasing sonic signature that promotes bass and keeps the sound easy and entertaining. While it may not be quite as defined and detailed, it certainly is wide and extremely pleasing to the ears depending on the genres you listen to.

At Rs 1,999, the headset is also priced well, and offers a viable alternative to options from Soundmagic, Sennheiser, Sony and others. The fact that this is an Indian company only sweetens the deal, and it’s fair to say that the Tekfusion Twinwoofers M 2 is a great pair of headphones that is definitely worth considering if you’re looking for good bass.
