Google's Nest division is expanding with the acquisition of connected home security camera maker, Dropcam. Both Nest and Dropcam acknowledged the acquisition and ReCode claims the deal was worth $555 million in cash. Google acquired Nest in January for $3.2 billion. Apple today officially announced it has acquired Beats Music and Beats Electronics for $3 billion. The deal had been speculated for almost a month. Microsoft will today announce the completion of its acquisition of Nokia's devices and services business. With Nokia unable to reach a solution with the Indian tax authorities, it is very unlikely that Nokia's Chennai plant would be transferred to Microsoft. Earlier, a Nokia India spokesperson had told BGR India that in case the tax dispute is not resolved by April 25, Nokia would consider striking a services agreement with Microsoft or in other words would become a contract manufacturer for Microsoft.
Nokia's handset and services business will be known as Microsoft Mobile Oy, Nokia said in a mail sent out to existing users with a Nokia account. Microsoft and Nokia are expected to close the $7.2 billion acquisition before the end of this month, which would mark the end of Nokia as we know it. However, Nokia will continue to exist with its telecom networks and infrastructure business NSN, its mapping and location based services HERE and its Advanced Technologies business that handles its IP and patents. Microsoft Mobile Oy will become a subsidiary of Microsoft Corp.
