This one is big. Rovio, the creator of Angry Birds, has announced that the original Angry birds game has been downloaded more than one billion times. This news comes back of the heels of Angry Birds sequel Angry Birds Space (PS: Angry Birds: Rio was not a sequel, was a movie tie-up), which was released in late March and is doing pretty well itself.

Rovio's Angry Birds Space has finally made it to the BlackBerry App World but the disappointing thing is that only PlayBook users can download it since this version is not compatible with the BlackBerry smartphones. Though it has taken a relatively longer time for RIM to bring this game on its platform (the game had hit Android and iOS platforms a long time ago) but it is certainly not the last since the Windows Phone version of the Angry Birds Space is still not ready.
Last week we reported that a fake version of Angry Birds Space was doing the rounds on the Internet. And now it is time for the same to be repeated with Instagram. We can’t say this is the most exciting use of NFC technology we’ve seen in recent history, but at least the team behind Rovio’s Angry Birds franchise is trying to breathe new life into the lab’s aging fowl. Last week at the MeeGo conference, Rovio was on hand showing off a new game called Angry Birds Magic. While details are slim for the time being, the firm did show off a nifty new feature by simply tapping two Nokia C7 smartphones together while running the new Angry Birds game, five new levels are instantly unlocked. The implementation is neat but the concept isn’t overly exciting, so we hope Rovio can fan things out a bit and add some more novel NFC functionality before launching the game. Hit the break for a video of Angry Birds Magic’s NFC capabilities in action.
