Chromecast gets more useful with ability to cast embedded YouTube videos

Google's $35 Apple TV competitor is getting more useful by the day. Users will soon be able to cast almost any YouTube video embedded on websites to Chromecast to watch them on a bigger display. Earlier, users could only do that with videos on YouTube.com and had to cast the web browser tab in case the video was embedded on another website. However, a recent update in the support docs noticed by Android Police shows that the new feature has been made live.

Google’s mobile hardware plans may have a bright future after all

In an earnings conference call for its fourth quarter results, Google revealed that it sold more than ads last quarter, with a couple of hardware devices having performed very well during the period. The list includes the Nexus 5 smartphone that was launched late last year, and the Chromecast dongle, which was the company s best-sold gadget during Q4, an affordable device that was further discounted as part of many interesting deals during the Christmas shopping season.

Google to launch Chromecast in more countries in 2014

Google is set to launch its $35 Chromecast in multiple international markets next year. We are going to be launching in a number of international markets, Google VP of Product Management Mario Queiroz said in an interview with Gigaom. Currently the dongle-like device, which connects to televisions and lets users stream content and select apps from their Android smartphones and tablets, has only been launched in the US.

YouTube app for Android and iOS updated with Play on feature

The problem with the mobile YouTube experience is that the user has to switch to a different video or has to see one video and then search for a different one. One cannot search for the next video while watching the current one. Well, all that now changes because with a new Play on feature that ensures multi-tasking experience and one can search for new videos to a hearts content without actually closing the video that is being viewed.

Google demoed Android powered set top box in January: WSJ

Only a few days ago Google announced the Chromecast HDMI dongle in a bid to gain a foothold on the living room, but the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the company had actually demoed an Android powered set top box that had a camera and motion sensor. Reportedly, the device was shown off at CES, by Andy Rubin himself before he quit the Android division.
