Twitter now delivers an astonishing 350 billion tweets each day, the company said on Friday. ”Delivering 350 billion Tweets a day is a terribly fun engineering challenge. But, it doesn’t capture how passionate our users are,” the company said from its official Twitter Engineering account. Coincidentally we’re sure, the news comes just one day after Google bragged that it had amassed 10 million Google+ users in just two weeks, and that these users collectively share 1 billion items each day. Google+ has quite a way to go before it is anywhere near as popular as Twitter, of course, but it’s certainly doing well for a 2-week-old product.
It is common knowledge the most girls on online social networks are in fact guys posing as girls. However, Google+ does not seem to have even them! According to stats released by Socialstatistics to Mashable, 86.8 per cent of Google+ members are men while another analytics site FindPeopleOnPlus pegs the figure at 73.7 per cent. Yes, it has been just two weeks since the service started and it is still in by-invitation-only phase but it won't hurt to have some more girls on Google+. And by girls, we do not mean guys posing as girls. Hopefully, Google's strict profile policy will take care of that to some extent.
Google's CEO, Larry Page, today confirmed what was being widely speculated - Google+ today has over 10 million users. This is a big number considering it has been barely a fortnight since its 'field trial' launch and is a 'by invitation only' service. Users are sharing and receiving over a billion items everyday and this number will only grow as more people join Google's answer to Facebook. On Android, Page revealed that over 550,000 Android phones are being activated daily, which according to him, is a big number even by Google's standards. Talking about Chrome, he says there are over 160 million users while the +1 button is being used more than 2.3 billion times a day! The earnings call is still going on and we will update this post as and when anything interesting is revealed. In all, 135 million Android smartphones have been activated so far. Android now has over 250,000 apps, which have been downloaded over six billion times. There are over 400 Android phone models out there in the market. Over 40 million songs were created by users with the Musical doodle. Hit the break to read Larry Page's opening remarks in its entirety.
Sometime yesterday, for some 80 minutes, Google ran out of disk space on the service that handled notifications for Google+. The result? Members of by-invitation-only Google+ network were spammed as they received multiple email notifications from the service. Google's Vic Gundotra, the man behind Google+, apologized to members on his Google+ profile. Hit the break for Gundotra's apology post...
Now that Google+ is the latest fad in online social media, most businesses are trying to get aboard as early as possible. But guess what, Google ain't happy about it. Still in an invitation-only beta, Google says it is only for end-users and it is working on a version of Google+ for businesses that would
See who got his Google+ invite! Looks like Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg is hanging out on Google+. We cannot confirm the authenticity of the profile but he certainly has some friends from Facebook in his 'Circle'. via @sharonvak
It has not been one of Google's best-kept secrets but today the online search giant's social networking service, Google+, has been officially announced. Google had been facing flak for not being able to deliver a product that could rival Facebook and from the looks of it, Google+ appears to be a worthy competitor. Though, mark my words, it won't really alarm Zuckerberg & Co, Google+ could change some rules of the game and might even force Facebook to change how it works. Rather than having one long list of friends, Google+ has 'Circles', where users can create circles of friends, family, co-workers... Users can then share information selectively among different circles. Hit the jump for videos and more dope on Google+.
