Here's our first look at the Nokia 8110, the latest budget feature phone from HMD Global-owned Nokia!
At last year’s MWC 2017, HMD Global’s surprise announcement was the relaunch of the Nokia 3310. At MWC 2018, the company has had another ‘One more thing…’ moment, and it marks another return of an iconic device. Remember the slider phone used by Neo in The Matrix? It is back in a modern avatar, with 4G connectivity and a slightly modernised look and approach.
The new Nokia 8110 retains the slider design and the curved body from the original, but gone is the antenna at the top of the phone. The new device features ‘intuitive tactile mechanics, with slide to answer and end calls, as well as an addictive helicopter style spin on its axis’. The Nokia 8110 will be available in Traditional Black and Banana Yellow colors, with the latter being much more attractive and eye catching.
Unlike the Nokia 3310 last year, this year’s Nokia 8110 features 4G connectivity, and also supports VoLTE calling from the word go. Under the hood is the Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform, which has been designed for budget feature phones and supports 4G VoLTE connectivity. The device comes pre-loaded with special versions of Google Assistant, Google Search, Google Maps, Facebook and Twitter, Outlook and Gmail. It also comes with a revamped version of Snake. Thanks to its connectivity options, it will be usable with 4G-only networks such as Reliance Jio in India.
The Nokia 8110 will be going on sale sometime in May. It carries a price tag of €79 (approximately Rs 6,300). The phone will appeal to basic users and fans of Nokia’s old range. It isn’t a smartphone though, so keep that in mind. Here is our first look at the Nokia 8110!
