After unveiling the Galaxy A8+ (2018) last month, Samsung has now launched the smartphone in India. The smartphone borrows key features from the flagship S-series and Note-series, such as Infinity Display, water and dust resistance, glass and metal body, and Samsung Pay to name a few. We’ve had a chance to use the phone, and here are our first impressions of the new device.

The Galaxy A8+ (2018) is priced at Rs 32,990, and will be available via Amazon India starting January 20. At this price point, the smartphone will compete with the likes of Honor View10, OnePlus 5T and Nokia 8. However, considering the specifications and features along with the price point, the Galaxy A8+ (2018) does have a bit of an upper hand. Samsung’s superior service and support network, and image in India will no doubt help as well.

The highlight of the smartphone is the dual front-facing camera setup. One is a 16-megapixel sensor of aperture f/1.9 for capturing photos and recording videos, whereas the other is an 8-megapixel sensor of aperture f/1.9 for capturing depth information. Both cameras work in tandem, and comes with ‘Live Focus’ feature that allows you to keep your face in focus, while blurring the background. It also features Augmented Reality (AR) based live stickers, beauty mode and HDR among others. Besides the dual front camera setup, the Galaxy A8+ (2018) also comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/1.7.

The smartphone flaunts a 6-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display running at a resolution of 2220 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by an Exynos 7885 octa-core SoC paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. There is also a hybrid microSD card slot to further expand the storage up to 256GB, although this means that you’ll have to forego dual-SIM connectivity.

Armed with a 3,500mAh battery, the smartphone comes with dual SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE HD voice calling support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS. It also supports fast charging using a wired adapter. On the software front, it runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, with a layer of Samsung custom UI on top. Here’s our first look at the new Samsung Galaxy A8+ (2018).
